My Review Of Deseret Bookshelf Plus!

I love reading, but with college, I am up to my eyeballs in textbooks. So finding the time to read books is hard, but because I drive a lot I have started listening to audio books. But finding good LDS Audiobooks gets expensive fast! For non-LDS Books, I have used Audible, but for LDS books there has not been an app, until now. Deseret Bookshelf Plus is like Audible but for the Mormons.

Back in January, I was asked to help beta test the new Deseret Bookshelf Plus app.  I thought to myself, LDS + Audio Books? Sign me up! I had a road trip coming up so I downloaded two audio books, and set off for Boise.

As I drove to Boise I listened to The Power of Everyday Missionaries. Unlike other times where I have listened to non-LDS audio books, this time I received revelation. As Elder Christiansen talked about how often investigators and less actives struggle to understand and read the Book of Mormon it hit me, I finally knew how to help Jeff. I stopped the book and called Jeff.

(A little back story. When I was a missionary in Sharon Vermont I would visit Jeff and teach him weekly. But we would also come over and just read the Book of Mormon together 2-3 times a week. When we were reading it with him he would read on his own as well. But after I left the missionaries stopped reading with him and so did he. He never was able to grasp the storyline. I call Jeff once or twice a week and talk with him to cheer him up, he suffers from depression. Knowing that the Book of Mormon pulled him out of his depression last time, I always encourage him to read. But rarely if ever does he read.)

I called Jeff and we talked, I told him that as I was listening to The Power of Everyday Missionaries I had an idea, I asked him if the reason he was not reading the Book of Mormon was because he was struggling to understand it?

He replied that it was the reason he had stopped reading. I then told him the idea I had. On Tuesdays, I have an hour long gap between classes at UVU. I told him I wanted to call him and read the book of Mormon with him every week. He told me he loved the idea. Most of the time only getting 6-7 verses between calls.

But last week he had read two full chapters between our calls. He excitedly told me about Alma and his mission to the Zoramites.  He was grasping the storyline! It worked! Because of The Power of Everyday Missionaries, Jeff has finally started reading the Book of Mormon on his own again. He excitedly tells me about what he has read whenever I talk with him. And every time I read with him he always so thankful and you can tell it lifts his spirits.

Why I Think Everyone Should Give It A Shot.

Now I am not trying to say that if you download Deseret Bookshelf Plus you will receive revelation. But I can tell you that if for no other book than The Power of Everyday Missionaries you should download and give this app a chance. And with a 30-day free trial, you have nothing to lose.

All told just during my free trial I have listened to over $110 worth of books! And with over 1,000 titles available I recently decided I will buy this app so that I can enjoy this spiritual feast I have been having.

If nothing else, I recommend you download the app just to listen to the Power of Everyday Missionaries and the Infinite Atonement. I learned so much from these took books. From practical ways to do missionary work to learning more about the Atonement of Jesus Chris. Just these two books alone are worth it.
