Ponderize Preach My Gospel
As I listened to Elder Durrant of the 70 speak in General Conference, he gave us an invitation to “ponderize” one verse of scripture each week. “The word ponderize is not found in the dictionary, but it has found a place in my heart. So what does it mean to ponderize? I like to say it’s a combination of 80 percent extended pondering and 20 percent memorization.”
When I heard this I thought back to my mission and how many missionaries lacked almost any mastery of the scriptures. And how I would work with them on memorizing verses from the lessons. Not so that we could quote them in the lessons, but so that we developed a mastery of the scriptures. Knowing where a scripture was, and the meaning of it built confidence. Both our confidence, but also the confidence of the members and of our investigators had in us.
Realizing that this approach helped many of my companions, I wanted to combine my old approach with “Ponderizing” to help missionaries, perspective missionaries, and members alike to gain a mastery of the doctrines of the Gospel.
By “Ponderizing” the verses in Chapter 3 of Preach My Gospel everyone can gain a deeper understanding, and eventually a mastery of the Gospel. So weekly I will be posting a Scripture from chapter 3 of Preach my Gospel.
For our first week, I will be Starting with the first principle “God Is Our Loving Heavenly Father.” And having a new one every week.
“God Is Our Loving Heavenly Father.”
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:-Romans 8:16
