30 Quotes From Latter-day Saint Leaders on True Masculinity and Fatherhood.

For Mother’s Day, I compiled a collection of quotes from leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Motherhood (which can be found here); to celebrate Father’s Day, I decided to compile a companion collection of quotes on masculinity and fatherhood! I hope you enjoy these 30 quotes on fatherhood and true masculinity.
“I focus today on the good that men can do in the highest of masculine roles—husband and father.” D. Todd Christofferson
“You need to learn that these masculine strengths are great, noble, and God-given; however, they also have some limitations. Because of these limitations, it is equally important to learn how the influence of good women in our lives can complement these strengths and overcome these limitations.” James E. Faust“Every father is to his family a patriarch and every mother a matriarch as coequals in their distinctive parental roles.” James E. Faust“the crosshairs of Satan’s scope are centered on husbands and fathers. Today’s media, for example, have been relentless in their attacks—ridiculing and demeaning husbands and fathers in their God-given roles.” L. Tom Perry“Exaltation is eternal fatherhood and eternal motherhood.” Ezra Taft Benson“There are some voices in our society who would demean some of the attributes of masculinity. A few of these are women who mistakenly believe that they build their own feminine causes by tearing down the image of manhood. …you demean yourselves by posturing or belittling masculinity and manhood.” James E. Faust,“There is not a higher good than motherhood and fatherhood in marriage. There is no superior career, and no amount of money, authority, or public acclaim can exceed the ultimate rewards of family.” D. Todd Christofferson“Boys need men to learn from, men to be with who understand their need for activities that are challenging and socially and spiritually constructive and that stretch them and give them a chance to learn manly skills, men to love and who love them, men who are models of what a man ought to be.” Elder Marion D. Hanks“You can describe a man in inches, pounds, complexion, or physique. But you measure a man by character, compassion, integrity, tenderness, and principle. Simply stated, the measures of a man are embedded in his heart and soul, not in his physical attributes” Bishop Richard C. Edgley“Do not expect perfection in your choice of a mate. Do not be so concerned about his physical appearance and his bank account that you overlook his more important qualities. Of course, he should be attractive to you, and he should be able to financially provide for you. But, does he have a strong testimony? Does he live the principles of the gospel and magnify his priesthood? Is he active in his ward and stake? Does he love home and family, and will he be a faithful husband and a good father? These are qualities that really matter.” Ezra Taft Benson“When a man understands how glorious a woman is, he treats her differently. When a woman understands that a man has the seeds of divinity within him, she honors him not only for who he is but for what he may become. An understanding of the divine nature allows each person to have respect for the other. The eternal view engenders a desire in men and women to learn from and share with each other. “ Merrill J. Bateman“Today’s popular culture tries to erode and demean your eternal role as a patriarch and father and minimize your most important responsibilities… Fathers, you are the guardians of your homes, your wives, and your children.” Elaine S. Dalton“As a Church, we believe in fathers. We believe in ‘the ideal of the man who puts his family first.’…We believe that far from being superfluous, fathers are unique and irreplaceable. “ D. Todd Christofferson“Men and women complement each other not only physically, but also emotionally and spiritually. “ Merrill J. Bateman“One of the greatest things a father can do for his children is to love their mother.” Howard W. Hunter“Oh, husbands and fathers in Israel, you can do so much for the salvation and exaltation of your families! Your responsibilities are so important. Remember your sacred calling as a father in Israel—your most important calling in time and eternity—a calling from which you will never be released.” Ezra Taft Benson“The title father is sacred and eternal. It is significant that of all the titles of respect and honor and admiration that are given to Deity, He has asked us to address Him as Father.” The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles“Nothing is going to startle us more when we pass through the veil to the other side than to realize how well we know our Father and how familiar his face is to us.” Ezra Taft Benson“The role of father is of divine origin, beginning with a Father in Heaven and, in this mortal sphere, with Father Adam. The perfect, divine expression of fatherhood is our Heavenly Father. His character and attributes include abundant goodness and perfect love.” D. Todd Christofferson“Noble fatherhood gives us a glimpse of the divine attributes of our Father in Heaven.” James E. Faust“Some fathers provide a good house, clothing, cars, and food, and forget what real fatherhood is. Fatherhood is a relationship of love and understanding. It is strength and manliness and honor. It is power and action. It is counsel and instruction. Fatherhood is to be one with your own. It is authority and example. “ A. Theodore Tuttle“A father who reads scripture to and with his children acquaints them with the voice of the Lord.” D. Todd Christofferson“Fathers, yours is an eternal calling from which you are never released. Callings in the Church, as important as they are, by their very nature are only for a period of time, and then an appropriate release takes place. But a father’s calling is eternal, and its importance transcends time. It is a calling for both time and eternity. “ Ezra Taft Benson“Perhaps the most essential of a father’s work is to turn the hearts of his children to their Heavenly Father.” D. Todd Christofferson“How do you raise a girl? Love her mother. Lead your family to the temple, be guardians of virtue, and magnify your priesthood. Fathers, you have been entrusted with our Heavenly Father’s royal daughters. They are virtuous and elect. It is my prayer that you will watch over them, strengthen them, model virtuous behavior, and teach them to follow in the Savior’s every footstep.” Elaine S. Dalton“Fathers, you are the primary model of manhood for your sons. You are their most meaningful mentor, and believe it or not, you are their hero in countless ways. Your words and your example are a great influence on them.” M. Russell Ballard“A righteous father protects his children with his time and presence in their social, educational, and spiritual activities and responsibilities. Tender expressions of love and affection toward children are as much the responsibility of the father as the mother. Tell your children you love them.” Howard W. Hunter“The highest ordinances in the house of the Lord are received by husband and wife together and equally—or not at all!” Russell M. Nelson“Our Heavenly Father endowed His sons and daughters with unique traits especially fitted for their individual responsibilities as they fulfill His plan. To follow His plan requires that you do those things He expects of you as a son or daughter, husband or wife. Those roles are different, but entirely compatible. In the Lord’s plan, it takes two—a man and a woman—to form a whole.” Richard G. Scott“Members of the Church have the most effective cure for our decaying family life. It is for men, women, and children to honor and respect the divine roles of both fathers and mothers in the home. “ James E. Faust
Well, there is only one quote by Elder Scott that mentions "son or daughter". No other quotes mention how sons and daughters in law need to honor their mothers,to include her in their family and grandchildren's lives,to care for her in the late times of her life and for all the years a mother sacrifices especially if she did it as a single parent, the son needs to protect, include, make time for visits and generally take care of his mother as she did for him, if she has no husband and yet the scriptures mention it a lot.At 73, I have not seen my grandchildren (except for zoom calls),for 7 yrs.I have tried to foster a relationship through zoom, to send presents and hand made cards, both handmade clothing and expensive furniture for their comfort and remember birthdays and holidays and have not had a visit from my son's family for 7 years and yet they live 7 hours away.He is a Eagle Scout, returned missionary, graduated BYU-Hawaii cum laud, and graduated chiropractic college, now a Dr.and is having a new, very expensive home built and yet I was invited to come for my granddaughters baptism (who I last saw when she was 6 months old) and he said he would pay for the air fare and a hotel! Just once I would like to see leadership have quotes telling sons to honor their mothers, protect and help them to feel loved and included and part of his family as he was always taken care of despite having no father in his life at all.

There are a LOT of quotes about the obligations for children to honor, and take care of, their parents. It is real, it is our doctrine, but unfortunately it is an obligation many attempt to shift to the state/institutions.
